THE SEARCH...

There was to be no compromise when it came to quality.  The search was thoughtful and deliberate.  This foundation mare would possess a beautiful nature and a spirited personality; she would be a classic Arabian daughter with an undeniable distinction that would immediately set her apart.  Her gracefulness, confidence, charisma and her refinement would make her the obvious choice.  The search was concluded at Hawley Arabians with the presentation of the beautiful fleabitten grey, Flaby’s Sar Monisa.

At the time it would not have been an easy decision for Tanya to part with Sar Monisa.  The Greene family would like to acknowledge this and express great appreciation to Tanya for allowing the opportunity of experiencing the extraordinary gifts of companionship, love and life that our beautiful Monisa has given us.

The acquisition of such a mare was undeniably a dream come true.  A once in a lifetime opportunity had emerged, and the Greene Family was privileged to be able to secure her.  Imported from the USA in 1979, Sar Monisa was by the classically beautiful Sar Ibn Moniet (Ibn Moniet El Nefous x Sariella) and out of a Naborr grandaughter.

Monisa had well and truly proven herself in the show ring as well, winning at both halter and under saddle on the same day, on more than one occasion.  She was National Champion Mare, and Supreme Arabian in 1986, East Coast Champion Mare Under Saddle and Top 5 in Halter in 1988, and Reserve Champion Under Saddle and Top Ten at the Australian Championships that same year.

“Let a horse whisper in your ear and breathe on your heart. You will never regret it."

Our beautiful Monisa, at the age of 25, had started to suffer from cancer, and it was decided that it would be unfair and selfish to hold her here for very much longer.  As Michael gently stroked and told her she was ‘a very good girl’, Monisa was gently put to sleep.  As most horse lovers would understand, this was a very dark day for all at The Palms, as it is so extremely hard to say goodbye to such a special mare, and friend.

She has, of course, left the Greene family with so many beautiful memories.  Monisa, in her later years, had the ‘house paddock’ to roam as she pleased, and she would often push her lovely nose through an open door, and with her very distinctive low and deep nicker, gently ask for a piece of bread, or an apple.  She would stand for ages with her head resting on Michael’s shoulder, as he would caress her broad forehead, and tell her that she was ‘a very good girl’.  Monisa has a garden of beautiful white roses planted as a tribute to her, and with her daughters and grand-daughters exhibiting so many of her characteristics, it is ensured that Flaby’s Sar Monisa will be forever cherished.
