In the early 1980’s Diane and Terry Greene, as the devoted and encouraging parents of Donna and Michael Greene purchased two Partbred Arabians for their horse crazy kids to compete hotly against each other with the greatest show of sibling rivalry Nambour Pony Club had ever seen!  Donna, with her gelding, ‘Skadoo’ rarely failed to win the highly coveted “best presented” award, and Michael on ‘Corvette’ left all in their wake in most of the fast and very competitive sporting events.  It was at a local agricultural show where the Greene Family saw their first Purebred Arabian Stallion.  In Michael’s words “a Porsche” compared to the others.

The Palms Arabian Stud has concentrated on producing a smaller number of quality Arabians with  unique bloodlines.  It is the intention to remain small and dedicated, thereby ensuring this quality and of course the capacity to pamper the select few!  The Greene family is united in their resolution of breeding for temperament, good legs and conformation, classic Arabian type, and breathtaking movement.  The Greene’s have bred for their own preferences, which have only half jokingly been tagged as ‘straight beautiful’!  Every decision, whether in regards to breeding, showing, and even just the day to day running of the farm, is always discussed and considered by the entire family.

Of course it seems only natural that a third generation now shares in the fascination for these gentle and beautiful creatures.  Riley and Patrick Greene can often be seen feeding carrots and apples to the horses, climbing to the top rail of the fences to dangle these tasty treats.  Donna’s gelding ‘Glory’ treads so carefully and almost tip toes as he carries them around his paddock for their ‘joyrides’.

The Arabians of The Palms are family horses, and the family is enormously satisfied with this fact.  The wonderful sensitivity of these horses is captured in the expression in their eyes, as they are so very careful and indulgent of the two little boys.  Some have said the allure of the Arabian horse must be genetic, as Kelli’s parents, the boy’s extremely proud grandparents, Colleen and Doug Rutherford, are also Arabian Horse devotees.  Successful and respected breeders, and both federal judges, who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment, dedication and passion for this breed which is almost certain to be passed down.

Situated in the southeast region of Queensland, halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the farm takes its name from the tall and elegant Palm trees adorning the 16-acre property.  Home to an absolute menagerie of animals big and small, Diane in particular, ensures a virtual paradise, not only for the treasured horses, but for the three pet birds, two ducks, two cats and two German Shepherd dogs, Sarge and Major.

The Palms Arabian Stud is very much a family operation with Terry and Diane’s home, and the home of Michael and Kelli with four year old Riley and 2 year old Patrick, both situated on the property.  Donna also has lovely acreage within walking distance, where she looks after and completely spoils some of the older mares.

The results of passion, hard work and the aspirations of a family are evident as we all look forward to the future of The Palms Arabian Stud, as The Dream Continues….
